Setting Up Your Home Gym

Given the time that we are in you may feel that its time to design a home gym. This does not need to be an overwhelming process and you don't need a very large space.  A corner in a living room or bedroom or office can be a perfect spot. A little creativity and thought will set yourself up for some really great workouts. locate a space in your home that you will be able to perform different types of exercise; strength training, cardio, stretching, and mindful practice. Plan to store your equipment in the same area as your workout space.  If you have to transport your equipment from room to room you'll more likely come up with excuses to not work out and you do not want easy excuses.

Once you have a space in your home, choosing the right equipment can be very overwhelming and expensive.  So, I put together 6 key items to get you started along with a few types of exercises to go with each piece.

The 6 pieces of equipment I recommend to start your home gym:

1. Superbands- these come in various resistance choices.  Superbands are great for squats, shoulder presses, assisting in pullups, lat pulls, even bicep curls,

2. Kettlebells- start off with 17K for women and 26K for men.  Kettlebells are great for swings, shoulder raises, halos, rows, goblet squats, and heavy carries.

3. TRX- If you are able to purchase a Trx, you are setting yourself up for success. The TRX Suspension Trainer can be used to achieve any fitness goal. By simply leveraging your body weight to perform hundreds of exercises, you can definitely get a full-body workout.

4. Dumbbells- used for all sorts of curls, and many press and pull exercises, you can also incorporate dumbbells into many core exercises when ready.

5. Jump ropes- jump ropes are great for warming up the body and also various cardio workouts.

6. Ankle bands- great for lateral walks for gluts, and monster walks for quads, if using around the wrists these are great for stability work for shoulders.
